How to Apply Ration Card & How to get the status - Chennai

Step 1 :

You should got to following URL to download the application form

http://www.tn.gov.in/appforms/ration.pdf

Step 2 :

You should have passport size Photo.No need to fill TALUK/ZONE informations. That will take care by the officer in charge.

Step3 :

You should get the deletion certificate from ration card office before apply for new ration card. Example : If you got married recently. your name will be with your family.Your spouse name will be with her family. Both entry should be removed first. You should submit both deletion certificate (your's and spouse) while apply for new ration card. It is a very important process.

Step4 :

You should have any one of the following address proff.

1. Bank pass book front page

2. Voter identity card (with same address)

3. EB bill (Current Month)

4. Telephone Bill (BSNL land line Bill or Broad Band Bill)

The above details are must. You should collect the application number for follow up (kind of recepit). After apply for the ration card, You should wait for 45 days. Since it is a batch process.They will take time to process it.After 45 days, contact ration office for the status.

Maximum days need to process ration card is only 60 days. (Apply before election.you will get it as early compare to non election time :)

Is there any fee for a new ration card ?

Government of Tamil Nadu have prescribed Rs 5 as the fee for a new ration card. This amount has to be paid to the AC or TSO office concerned Applicants are requested NOT to pay any bribes to any staff or antisocial elements (brokers). Any such requests may be reported to this office.
